Meetings in Parma

Many people who live in the Parma, Ohio area are in need of addiction recovery meetings.

There are several options for support to help those in recovery as well as family members who may also be in the need of support.

We are not affiliated with these programs in any way, however, we believe in the services they provide. Support groups are a good resource for anyone who is looking to maintain their sobriety.

We remain open and committed to providing critical addiction treatment. For information on Coronavirus (COVID-19), including symptoms, risks, ways to protect yourself and our commitment to patient & staff safety, click here.

What is Alcoholic Anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous are meetings held internationally for men and women who have had drinking problems and are working on recovering.

Alcoholics Anonymous follows the twelve-step principle. This practice is used and followed with every AA meeting, no matter where the location. This framework provides unity amongst the members and allows a member to go to a meeting anywhere and feel welcomed by the structure.

AA meetings are apolitical and multiracial. There is a very diverse population that attends these meetings.  There are no age requirements and are available almost anywhere.

What is Narcotics Anonymous?

Narcotics Anonymous is a non-profit group of recovering addicts who meet regularly to help one another abstain from drug use. NA was founded in 1953. The members of NA are men and women who have struggled with drug use. The group atmosphere allows its members to gain support from peers who are experiencing similar struggles with drug addiction.

The only requirement for acceptance to NA  is wanting to stop using drugs. Like many of these programs, NA is not affiliated with any other organization and welcomes members of all genders, races, sexual identity, creed, or religion.

What is SMART Recovery?

SMART Recovery (Self- Management and Recovery Training) is a community of mutual support groups in which participants help one another resolve any addiction problems. These addictions do not need to be substance abuse. Some members have addictions to gambling or overeating,

SMART is free to anyone who is seeking assistance with addiction for themselves or to support a friend or family member.

The Parma area has a number of SMART meetings that are held in person as well as a number that are held online each week.

What are Al-Anon and Alateen?

Al-Anon is a group that holds support meetings for those people who have a loved one or friend who has an alcohol problem.

Alateen is within Al-Anon and is geared towards teenagers who may be struggling with a loved one and their drinking problems.

Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are just two of the organizations that offer support group meetings. SMART Recovery is another option people have available to them. They are not 12-Step-oriented at all; theirs is more of a scientific approach to recovery.

Families can also get the help and support they need from attending Al-Anon and Alateen meetings. Many of them are also 12-Step based.

Traveling From Parma, Ohio for Rehab

Many people are choosing to travel away from home to seek drug and alcohol rehabilitation. There are many reasons for doing so.  A few reasons may be:

  • Privacy.  Addiction treatment is very personal. For some, receiving services in their hometown is a hindrance to recovery. Traveling for care out of state allows for more privacy for the client seeking rehab and allows more focus on the treatment aspect.
  • A feeling of starting over. A new environment may provide a better chance of maintaining recovery by helping individuals create new habits and escape potentially dangerous situations.
  • Traveling out of state offers a broader selection of treatment facilities that suit your own personal needs.
  • Health insurance may only provide benefits for facilities that are not in the patient’s home area.

Arizona is in a scenic, temperate part of the country. This area offers views of mountains and tranquil deserts. It is a choice location for many to begin their recovery.
