One of the best things about the support groups in Illinois is that they are available free of charge. There are several for people to choose from, based on their individual needs and preferences.

THERE ARE SO MANY HELPFUL AND SUPPORTIVE DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTION RECOVERY RESOURCES IN ILLINOIS. THEY INCLUDE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings have been taking place since the organization was formed in 1935. They are held in various locations and welcome anyone who has the desire to stop drinking. Members share with each other about their experiences and struggles. Meetings help to hold them accountable and give them the encouragement they need to stay sober. There are several Illinois AA meetings taking place every week.

NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS

Narcotics Anonymous meetings are also widely available in Illinois. NA is an organization that was started in 1955 as a way to help drug addicts recover from their addictions. But anyone can attend NA meetings; even alcoholics, who often like the program better than AA. NA teaches the 12 Steps and provides an opportunity for people to receive peer support to help them in recovery.

SMART RECOVERY

SMART Recovery is not 12-Step-based. Their focus is on a more scientific approach to addiction recovery. SMART stands for, Self-Management And Recovery Training. Meeting participants assist one another in addressing and resolving issues they have with drugs and alcohol. The program helps people learn how to make internal changes so that they can see positive results in their lives. Illinois has many SMART Recovery meetings scheduled each week.

AL-ANON

Al-Anon is an organization that was founded for the purpose of helping hurting families with addicted or alcoholic loved ones. Quite often, these individuals have nowhere else to turn for support. Al-Anon offers them that opportunity, and there are several meetings being held in Illinois on a weekly basis. By attending regular support group meetings, members can get the help they need to stop enabling behaviors. It also helps to talk with others facing similar circumstances.

ALATEEN

Alateen is a part of the Al-Anon organization, but their support group meetings are geared toward the needs of young people. Many teenagers, young adults and older children do not have an outlet for their feelings when they have addicted loved ones at home. Going to weekly Alateen meetings in Illinois can help them by providing them with the support and encouragement they need.

Illinois Addiction Treatment and Recovery Centers

Even though 12-Step meetings can provide people with a lot of support, they are often no substitution for professional treatment programs. Many people need to start by getting help through an alcohol and drug rehab. There are a lot of options in Illinois for treatment, and various levels of care, depending on what people need.

Drug and Alcohol Detox

One of the hardest parts of recovering from an addiction is going through withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms accompany almost every drug, including alcohol. Not only can they be difficult to cope with, but in some cases, they can be very dangerous.

Drug and alcohol detox offers help for withdrawal symptoms through a variety of treatment options. Some drugs, such as benzodiazepines, alcohol, stimulants and opioids may require the individual to go through the detoxification process. There are several types of detox programs available in Illinois, including:

Inpatient Rehab

Many people begin recovering from addiction by going through an inpatient rehab program first. Inpatient treatment offers a high level of care, which is what many people need. It involves a 28-day stay in a facility while receiving various types of therapy. Some centers in Illinois may also provide in-house detox services.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs

Intensive outpatient programs, or IOPs, have become very popular in Illinois in recent years. Clients come to evening appointments between 3-5 times a week to get treatment. They may need to submit to drug testing while they are a part of the program. People enjoy the flexibility of IOPs because they can continue to work and care for their families during the day.

Partial Hospitalization Programs

Partial hospitalization programs offer a higher level of care on an outpatient basis. Often called PHPs or day treatment programs, they involve coming to treatment as often as five days per week during the day. There, clients receive individual and group therapy as well as other therapeutic treatment options. There are many PHPs available in Wisconsin.

Outpatient Therapy and Rehabilitation

A more traditional outpatient rehab program provides individual therapy sessions only for people in recovery. This might not be the best option for someone who has never been to treatment before. But it can work great as a form of follow-up care. There are many facilities that offer outpatient therapy and rehab in Illinois.
