Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon in Sacramento, CA

Alcohol is something that has become a norm in today’s society. However, many people misuse it and need alcohol addiction recovery. Many times, they may not know where to get help with that. Fortunately, Sacramento, California has many resources for people who are looking for help. There should be no trouble with finding a meeting in Sacramento.

What is Alcoholics Anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an international group of people who all have the same struggle: alcohol. This group is self-supporting and not a professional. They accept people from all races, backgrounds, education levels, genders and religions. All meetings are free to attend and are available in most countries. Most cities in the US have AA meetings throughout the week.

AA meetings are led by peers as opposed to doctors or counselors. Members learn and go through the 12-step process. Once someone completes the steps, they can then help someone else go through them. AA helps people every day with alcohol problems.

What is Al-Anon?

Al-Anon is a support system for people whose lives have been impacted in some way by someone else’s drinking problem. They can come together at free meetings and offer mutual support, sharing their experiences, feelings and emotions. They help each other apply the Al-Anon principle to their situations to help bring positive change, even if the alcoholic does not admit their problem.

People going to Al-Anon also commit to learning and using the 12-steps, similar to AA. This is a helpful time for people to come together and encourage each other. Al-Anon is not for the alcoholic.
