This person could currently be in the teen’s life or not. Alateen offers free meetings where they can meet with other teens who are in similar circumstances. They can share their hopes, strengths, and experiences with each other. They can help each other learn how to cope with the situation. They can talk about the difficulties the situation brings and they can mutually encourage one another.

Alateen has found some tools to be useful for their members. Those are:

Alateen is not a place for young people to hang out socially and complain about parents, friends or school. It does not offer therapy. It is not for a teen seeking help with an addiction.
