New Haven, CT: Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Information

Sometimes, when a person starts drinking, they only intend to drink socially. Far too often, this turns into more than they can handle and they can become addicted to alcohol. Thankfully, for the person who wants help, there are many alcohol addiction recovery resources. Residents of New Haven, CT can reach out and start the road to sobriety.

What is Alcoholics Anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a well-known organization that helps millions of people every day. It is people who come together in free, peer-led meetings to share with each other about the thing that brought them there: an alcohol problem. AA holds meetings in almost every country across the world. In the US, there are meetings in or near almost every major city.

Many people have heard of the 12-step process used by AA members. This is a useful tool to help people work through their addiction. It is never required. When someone finishes the steps, they can help someone else go through them to reach their goal.

STRUGGLING WITH AN ALCOHOL PROBLEM?
YOU’RE NOT ALONE!

Getting and staying sober is very challenging, but with the right support network and tools, it’s completely attainable.

What is Al-Anon?

Al-Anon is an organization that has meetings to help those whose lives have been affected in some way by the alcohol problem of a loved one. These meetings are free, and they offer a safe space for people to share their thoughts, emotions, feelings, hopes, fears and experiences with people who are going through a similar circumstance. They get encouragement from each other. They learn the Al-Anon principles and learn how to apply them to their individual situation. This can help bring change and positivity even if their loved one is not ready to change.

Al-Anon also utilizes the 12-step process. These meetings help people know that there are other people who go through this and they do not have to do it alone. These meetings are not for the person who is addicted to alcohol.
