The Need for Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings in Fargo, North Dakota

Alcohol addictions can happen to anyone, anywhere, including Fargo, North Dakota. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings have been helping people battle their drinking problems for decades. A solid support system can make a big difference in the recovery process.

Alcohol addiction has an effect on more than just the person drinking. The state of being drunk can change a person’s behavior. They may do things they would not normally do, including becoming violent.

Alcohol slows down the brain and the body’s senses. This can cause accidental injuries like falling down a flight of steps. A lack of coordination can cause injuries to other people, especially if the drinker decides to drive. Alcohol can also worsen depression or other mental health issues in people possibly leading to self harm.

Alcohol Use in Fargo, North Dakota

A USA Today news article from December 2017 listed the drunkest cities in every state. Based on CDC data, Fargo was declared the drunkest city in North Dakota. In Fargo, 25.2% of adults reported they were heavy drinkers or binge drinkers. That is the fifth-highest rate of any city nationwide. The state rate of adults who are heavy or binge drinkers is 24.7%, the highest in the nation.

A community health needs assessment done by Essentia Health-Fargo was put together based on an online survey from December 2017. In that survey 50% of the residents said they were binge drinking at least once a month. Alcohol use and abuse was one of the top health concerns in the survey.

Drunk driving statistics for the state of North Dakota during 2018:
