Alateen Meetings in Dewey-Humboldt, Arizona

Alcohol abuse is a stressful situation. It is hard on the person who cannot stop drinking. It can be even more stressful for family members of the alcoholic. Alateen is available to help teenagers learn how to deal with some of the stress. It is very easy to find meetings in the Dewey-Humboldt area.

What is Alateen?

Alateen is one of the family support groups for people affected by someone else’s drinking problem. This family support meeting group is just for teenagers. Alateen is part of Al-Anon.

Each Alateen group is led by adult Al-Anon members called Group Sponsors. These are adults who have gone through a certification process. The Group Sponsors do not act like a parent or teacher during the group sessions.

The Group Sponsor’s job is to provide safety and keep the group focused on the Al-Anon/Alateen principles. For safety reasons Alateen groups cannot meet if the Group Sponsor is not there. Alateen members are always welcome at Al-Anon meetings if the Group Sponsors are not available.

Alateen is not a place for teens to complain about parents or other people. Alateen groups are not social hangouts. This group is also not for teens who have their own alcohol use problem.

Alateen and Al-Anon groups learn and follow the same 12-step principles of AA. Alateen members also follow the twelve traditions of Alateen. The purpose of Alateen is to help other teenagers of alcoholics.
