The Need For Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings in Cranston, Rhode Island

Many people around the world have found AA meetings to be helpful in the battle against alcohol addiction. Cranston, Rhode Island also has a need for alcohol addiction recovery. Most people who successfully stop drinking did not do it alone.

Drinking too much alcohol causes many different problems. It can affect someone’s health in a bad way. It can also cause problems in family and friend relationships. It can eventually cause work and legal problems.

Alcohol addiction is now called alcohol use disorder by most medical groups. Alcohol use disorder has a range of intensity. It can be mild, moderate, or severe. Even the most severe cases of alcohol use disorder can be helped by rehab.

Alcohol Use Statistics in Cranston, Rhode Island

Cranston is part of Providence county Rhode Island. About 60% of the entire population of Rhode Island lives within this county. With that many people, it is very likely that many are struggling with alcohol addictions.

The Care New England Community Health Needs Assessment final report from September 2019 shows alcohol use across the state by county.  In Providence County, 17.8% of adults reported excessive drinking. Excessive drinking included binge drinking and heavy drinking.

The report also included data on deaths from driving under the influence. In Providence County, 34.5% of driving deaths were caused by drunk driving. This is above the United States national average of 29% of driving deaths caused by drunk driving.

  • In 2018 there were 2423 DUI arrests.

An article in ConvergenceRI showed some startling statistics about emergency room visits due to alcohol intoxication. The article says that alcohol intoxication is one of the major reasons for emergency transport by ambulance to Rhode Island hospitals. These are not official diagnoses, but what is reported by observation of the EMTs. These alcohol intoxication transport numbers are for 2017:

  • 401 transports to Rhode Island Hospital
  • 173 transports to Fatima Hospital
  • 760 transports to Kent Hospital
  • 188 transports to Miriam Hospital
  • 164 transports to Roger Williams Hospital
