Alateen Meetings in Chino Valley, Arizona

Alcoholism affects many people every day. Addictions can strain relationships and disrupt family life. There are several support groups to help people with alcohol problems and their families in the Chino Valley, Arizona area.

What is Alateen?

Alateen is one of the family support groups that follow the 12-step process. Alateen is for teenagers who have friends or family members that are alcoholics. This group is not for teenagers that have a drinking problem.

Alateen members learn about and follow the 12-steps from AA. Alateen also has twelve traditions that they follow. One of these traditions explains the purpose of Alateen. The purpose of Alateen groups is to help other teenagers of alcoholics. During meetings members share their experiences with each other and encourage one another.

Each Alateen group has one or two Group Sponsors. These Group Sponsors are adults that are part of Al-Anon that have completed a certification process. Their job is to keep the meetings on topic. They do not parent or judge the teenagers in the group. An Alateen meeting can not happen if the group sponsors are not there, for safety reasons.

Is There an Alcohol Problem in Chino Valley, Arizona?

A report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says 95,000 people die every year from drinking too much alcohol. That is 261 deaths each day because of alcohol. Most of these deaths are from long-term diseases that are caused by alcohol. Some of the deaths are from alcohol poisoning, drunk driving crashes, or someone committing suicide while drunk. It is very likely that some of the people living in Chino Valley may be struggling with alcohol addiction.

  • 2019- 13 deaths
