Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Meetings in Akron, Ohio

Alcohol use disorder is prevalent in the Akron, Ohio area. Fortunately, Alcoholics Anonymous is there to help people by providing support, and Al-Anon can assist hurting families too. Because of the work that has been done by these two organizations, millions of people all over the world have been able to successfully stop drinking. There should be no difficulties with finding a meeting in Akron, OH.

What is Alcoholics Anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an organization that offers support group meetings for people who have drinking problems. AA has been around since 1935, and it was founded by two men who had the desire to stop drinking and wanted to support each other. They found that their methods worked, and as a result, AA was born. Since that time, the movement has spread all over the United States as well as into several other countries.

AA does not require its members to pay a membership fee at all. There is also no charge to attend a meeting. The only requirement is for participants to have the desire to recover from alcoholism.

The 12-Steps are a major focus for AA members. Participants work through each of the steps in their own timeframe. Meetings are spent listening to speakers and sharing with each other about their struggles and victories.

What is Al-Anon?

Al-Anon is an organization that was founded for the purpose of providing support to the friends and family members of alcoholics. They offer weekly support group meetings for loved ones, regardless of their ages. It is important to note that these meetings are not for alcoholics, but for the people who care about them.

It can be so difficult to watch a loved one struggle with alcoholism. Many families do not know how to handle it, or what they should do. Going to Al-Anon meetings gives them an outlet and a way to get support from people who understand the challenges they are facing.
