“As it says on our website, our approach is “Refreshingly Human” – vital in a world too keen to label each of us as this or that, in this category or in that category, an alcoholic or a cocaine addict. It is this human side, this humble heart we share and show to people who come to us in need of treatment, and it is this simple humanity that enables us to inspire the changes these people are desperate for and deserve.” -Robert Castan CEO

Traveling From Aurora, Illinois to Arizona for Drug and Alcohol Rehab

At first, it may seem odd to go across the country for addiction treatment. It actually is becoming an option that is being used more often. People have many different reasons to go out of state for the addiction recovery help they need.

One reason for traveling could be finding the right treatment program. Each treatment facility has different rehab programs. What works for one person may not help someone else at all. SpringBoard Recovery creates personal programs for everyone who comes.

Some people may need to leave their current environment so they can stay away from places or people that encourage drug or alcohol use. Leaving their state to go to rehab in Arizona helps to avoid places that could trigger a relapse. A relapse can be dangerous, when someone starts using again they could overdose easily.

Some people who have a drug or alcohol problem may have a public job, like doctors, lawyers, and police officers. They will often go out of the area to seek recovery for privacy. In another state, they are unlikely to run into someone they know from their job.

Does Health Insurance Cover Rehab?

Health insurance providers are required to offer some kind of substance use benefits. This is different for each provider. We can verify benefits for anyone who is interested in coming to SpringBoard Recovery for help. We want everyone to get the treatment they need without a lot of out-of-pocket expenses.

What to Expect During Rehab

Detox is the beginning of drug and alcohol addiction recovery. When a person stops using drugs and alcohol the body goes through changes. This process is called detoxification.

Sometimes the withdrawal symptoms while the body is emptying out the drugs can be serious. It is recommended to go to a detox program for medical supervision. There are several kinds of detox programs:

  • Medication-assisted treatment combines FDA-approved medications with behavior therapy.
  • Medical detox allows for medical monitoring and treatment of some withdrawal symptoms.
  • Holistic detox uses proper nutrition, exercise and activities like meditation to help people through the detox process.

Inpatient Rehab

Detox does not cure addiction. People need to get to the reason they were using drugs or alcohol so they do not start using again. This requires therapy. For some, the best option is inpatient rehab.

Inpatient rehab lasts for twenty-eight days. During this time patients live in the facility full time, they do not leave for work or other activities. Some programs do detox and inpatient rehab in the same location.

Outpatient Rehab Programs

Outpatient therapy programs are more flexible, patients do not live in the facility. They can live at home or at a sober living residence during treatment. They also have the option to work or meet other obligations while recovering. There are different levels of outpatient rehab.

Additional Recovery Options

12-Step Programs and Support Groups

12-Step groups are local peer support groups, they do not offer professional help. The most well-known groups are Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. These support groups encourage each other to live sober. In Aurora, Illinois there are:

SMART Recovery meetings are also available in the Aurora, Illinois area. These are not 12-step based meetings. They provide various science-based resources for people to use to change their behavior patterns to break addictions.

Sober Living Homes

Sober living homes are a residence for people recovering from drug and alcohol addictions. There are specific rules for staying in a sober living home. Residents are required to attend outpatient therapy while living in the home.

No drugs or alcohol is allowed in the house, and there may be other rules to follow. Some sober living houses may require people to pay rent while they are there. Often all the residents help with household chores to keep everything running smoothly.
