What is Alcoholics Anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous, also known as AA, was founded in 1935. It is a peer support organization founded to help those who have a drinking problem and would like to quit.

AA has helped millions of people in recovery since they began.

What is Narcotics Anonymous?

Narcotics Anonymous is more commonly referred to as NA. It was founded in 1953 and is a community-based organization that holds weekly meetings to help support those with drug addictions in their efforts to quit the habit.

Alcohol is also considered a drug in the NA organization, and many alcoholics attend NA meetings for support.

What is SMART Recovery?

SMART Recovery is a peer support system that takes a slightly different approach to recovery. It is not a 12-Step system like other weekly meetings.

SMART Recovery uses various resources such as family, friends, and other communities to support the members. The program uses an individualized recovery plan to help its members create a more balanced and purpose-filled life.

What are Al-Anon and Alateen?

Al-Anon was founded to help support people worried about someone who has a problem with alcohol.

Alateen is a program within the Al-Anon organization. This program is designed for teens and young adults affected by a family member with addiction issues.

San Luis Alateen Meetings

Although there are no face-to-face Alateen meetings in the San Luis area, there are online options for support.

Alateen offers chats online on their mobile app. An assigned Alateen Group Sponsor moderates these chats to keep the topics discussed appropriately.

FREE ADDICTION RECOVERY RESOURCES IN San Luis, Arizona

Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are just two of the organizations that offer support group meetings. SMART Recovery is another option people have available to them. They are not 12-Step-oriented at all; theirs is more of a scientific approach to recovery.

Families can also get the help and support they need from attending Al-Anon and Alateen meetings. Many of them are also 12-Step based.
